Also known as "Scholarly Articles," "Peer-Reviewed Articles," or "Academic Articles," these are:
  • Written and reviewed by scholars and provide new research, analysis, or information about a specific topic.
  • Usually focused on a narrow subject or a single case study
  • Intended for an academic audience

 

The following databases are a good place to find information on the field of East Asian & Pacific Rim Studies

 

 Unlike journal articles, scholarly books:
  •  Are written on a broader, general subject
  •   May contain a collection of related chapters by different authors
  •   Contain less recent information
Remember: you may only need to read one chapter of a scholarly book!

Asia Society – One of the leading educational organizations dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening partnerships among peoples, leaders and institutions of Asia and the United States, including arts, business, culture, education, and policy.

BBC News Asia – The BBC’s coverage of Asian news.

CNN – Asia News – CNN’s Asia news.

The New York Times Asia Pacific section – News focused on Asia. Content can be read through ProQuest Newspapers with no paywall.

The Wall Street Journal – Wall Street Journal’s Asian coverage. Content can be read through ProQuest Newspapers with no paywall.

South China Morning Post – US Edition – Part of the Alibaba Group, this news source presents news on Asia from the perspective of its base in Hong Kong.

China Digital Times – “China Digital Times (CDT) is an independent, bilingual media organization that brings uncensored news and online voices from China to the world.”

Japan Times – Internationally themed news source about Japan,  including articles on politics, culture, sports and more. Allowance to read 10 articles freely per month.
