The University of Bridgeport and Goodwin University Libraries in a joint effort, have migrated from EZProxy to OpenAthens for authentication of library resources. OpenAthens will improve security and access control of library resources, reduce service interruptions, integrate with the institutions' single sign-on (SSO) services, and provide usage data.
What has changed?
The A-Z Database list above reflects the new OpenAthens links for most databases.
Before June 26 most of our subscribed (paid) library resources were accessed through a proxy service called EZproxy. EZproxy was used to authenticate members of UB, by connecting with the University system.
You could see evidence of that in the URLs on our webpages, and sometimes in the URL address bar after arriving at the resource. It would look like https://libproxy.bridgeport.edu/login?url=https://TheResource.com/etc. or https://TheResource.com.libproxy.bridgeport.edu/etc.
As of June 26, 2023 most of our subscribed (paid) library resources are now accessed through a SAML system called OpenAthens. OpenAthens is now used to authenticate members of UB, by connecting with the University system.
You now see evidence of this in the URLs on our webpages, but will likely not see evidence of this in the resource’s URL address bar. An OpenAthens link will look like https://go.openathens.net/redirector/goodwin.edu?url=https://TheResource.com/etc. The OpenAthens prefix will be dropped at the resource website, and will look like https://TheResource.com/etc
Differences that you may notice:
1. The authentication system prefix will change from
https://libproxy.bridgeport.edu/login?url=
to
https://go.openathens.net/redirector/goodwin.edu?url=
2. The log in experience is different. After selecting University of Bridgeport in the OpenAthens landing page, you will log in with your email, instead of your UBNet ID (username)
3. Permalinks acquired from resources will not have an authentication prefix
